Youth work in collaborative teams to apply their design skills to the development of Web pages for a specific client. Program leaders facilitate Web development and guided practice in this girl-led problem-based activity. Youth gain leadership skills in interacting with their client and users, taking the initiative to learn the HTML they need to complete the job, and presenting their web pages to the client. Youth at the JourneyGirl level (Unit 6) assist youth at the Apprentice level (Unit 3) in the design of their Web sites. Youth also reflect on the variety of careers they see through field trips to ICT organizations.
Unit 6 is structured to allow facilitators to lead both Units 3 and 6 simultaneously. Youth in Unit 6 are reviewing what they learned in Unit 3 and applying it to a real project for a client. Week 6, Sizing Your Image, of this 10 day unit is the only written curriculum activities specifically for Unit 6. Program leaders need to identify the client and possible web development project for the youth prior to the start of Unit 6.
